A Diary of Hope

Amazing, a week has gone by and it really seems impossible. Time doesn't fly, it warps.Robin and I have been so busy that she has been pooped, and my brain feelsl like a smoldering forest. With the harsh and moist weather everything becomes a chore. Pipes broke, a main heater had to be taken apart and cleaned. We were like to gleeful kids when a neighbor with a backhoe offered to help load the weeks feed into his front bucket and help us store it. The lot we must cross to put feed upcan't be crossed with our vehicles when the ground is wet. We would have had to carry the 15 50# bags from the road. Might be good exercise, but what a pain in the back and shoulders.

Our hoofed friends are spending extra time in bed. Robin unrolled a round bail of hay and filled everyone's favorite sleeping quarter. How wonderful to have someone here who really cares for the comfort of our rescues. The group Jackson Friends of the Animals Shelter is going to help place our adoptable cats. Our Sunday trips to PETsMART are too much for our cats. They get stressed from the travel, and from all the activity that they are not accustomed to. Dogs barking, people peering in at them. Thankfully our dear friends are located in Jackson and can ease the stress for the cats, and afford them the time they need to adjust to being at PETsMART. We are thrilled.

They will take 7 of our cats tomorrow. Anyone that does not find a home will return to stay with us. We are really excited for our cats that will find their very own loving homes. We are familiar with this wonderful groups work and fully trust them to screen adoptive familles, and care for our rescued friends. We will have the cats spayed/neutered, and give their shots so that they are ready for placement. We are up to 30 cats.

If you are looking at our web for our newly rescued animals, shoot me! I spent 7 hours entering the names and descriptions of all of our dogs, and some of our other residents. I managed to save it in outer space. Even my computer instructor friend couldn't retrieve it. I promise you I will not bedisappointing you for long. I am trying to set aside time for all of the tracking, updating, and everything I need to get done. It is just a real nightmare trying to take care of our animals, make trips to Doc's, handle the cases that are brought to us every day, and simply put do the impossible.

We have two court cases Thursday. Bob, Robin's husband will handle one for us. Mr. Mosley's dog was brutally killed by his landlord. The case hinges on circumstantial evidence. Mr. Mosley is heartbroken - still crying every time he has to mention the incident. I have to verify that I will be incourt with gene Hook. I charged him with the starvation of his horse. I had to have a DR. Baily from Winona, MS. euthanize the precious creature. He had lay for days in the rain strugglingto get up. I pray that Judge Avant really socks it to him. Judge Avant is truly a friend to animals.

Tomorrow I will meet with legislators regarding bills that we are trying to get passed this year. Once again we are pushing for a bill that will give the State Board of Veterinarians authorization to licenses, and regulate trained euthanasia techs for Mississippi's animal shelters. It would also allow for the shelters with such techs to order and utilize the DEA regulated drugs needed.

We are striving for definitions for our State Statutes pertaining to cruelty to animals. A State Rep has introduced a bill making it a crime to sell or use strychnine to poison rodents. We are going to ask him to aid with amending the current Statute that that criminalized the poisoning of certain animals. It does not include cats, and other animals that should be protected. There a so many issues that we are involved in currently that it nearly shuts me down to relay them. Time. Time is so precious, and there are so many urgent issues which require this vital resource. Trust me, we are spending every waking moment pressing for the most. I wish you could be here to see and experience our efforts. I think you would be truly pleased.

I am going to say so long for now. I have some urgent paperwork to attend to. I'm tired. Today was stressful. The care of our friends was routine, the trip to pick up Jake and Courtney from their heartworm treatment was usual, but our horrible encounter with a very disappointing judge over theneglect of a herd of horses was sadly, and desperately just exactly what I expected. For now let me say that it is best that I do not reveal which county this judge is in. I have had nothing but encounters with him. Today I at least felt vindicated when Bob, Robin, and another party we are working with, got to see first hand the lack of consideration for law, let alone the care of these horses given by this judge. We are not whipped yet. We have some strategy going here. I keep you updated.

Thanks for being there. Doll
