Where have we been? What have we been up to? It has been nearly a month since you have heard from Project Hope. We did write reports, they just never made it on line. We have had trouble getting on line.
Where to begin. So much has transpired. I will give you the highlights in jabs because so much has happened that I will simply spurt details out as they come to me.
Since our last visit we have rescued a number of dogs, and a few cats. A mother cat and her kitten were put out at the tiny Jitney Jr. convenience store. Jan and I were leaving a deserted parking lot late one night and a juvenile kitten came around the corner of a building holding his right front paw up, and crying for help. He is adorable, and his foot has completely recovered from a slight sprain. We also took another mom and her 4 kittens in.
We rescued 6 dogs from a collector ("c"), and took in 5 from one of her kindly neighbors who had saved a stray mother and her 4 pups. Since the Oxford Shelter helps us so much, we again took in a few more dogs from them. Baby, a Queensland Heeler who came from Oxford went home with her new family Sunday before last. Also, Tobey, a 7-yr.-old Chihuahua with a few problems was adopted by one of our friends.
Sonja, who manages the shelter took home one of the smaller dogs that had come to us from "c" in horrible condition.
Honey came to us over a week ago. She had been placed with a senior couple. She was inappropriately placed, as she knocked the man down - bruising his face terribly. She is really unhappy hear. She does not get along with our dogs, or cats.
Last night we rescued Hershey. He was hanging at the same convenience store as the cats. It appears that he may have been tied somewhere and broke loose. He is about 6-7 months old. A real cutie.
Mr. Bean is a handsome creme colored lab x that was tied to a roadside fence with a T-shirt. He loves water. "Beanie-Baby" as we nicknamed him loves his wading pool.
We have placed other dogs, and obviously taken others in.
The Van Is Great! Our lives are so much easier now that we have the van. People now approach us. Rescue and transport is streamline. Trips for groceries are a breeze. When someone contacts us to let us know we can pick up a load of food weather is nolonger a concern.
Spays and neuters are keeping up with the flow of new arrivals.
Last Wednesday night I came across an injured young dog on my way to church. Poor little sweetie. She was really in trouble. There was no one around and she tried to get up when I would move back towards the van to get a carrier to put her in. I heard a truck coming from the distance. When it rounded the bend I waved the occupants down. The two men aided with the carrier, and said they lived in the area and had never seen the dog before. She has been at Docs. He treated her for a sore mouth, a dislocated right hip, and a horribly broken right elbow. His new assistant wants to adopt Ebony.
I did a real number on my left ankle three weeks ago today. Natalie, our precious hog moved the steps in front of the storage room. I went out with a barrel of hay in hand and went down. I would have lay there uttering a few more OOH! Ouch! es but the ants seized the moment and bit the smarts out of me.
The people vet told me to take of the shoe, keep the foot up for three weeks, and go back to working slowly. Of course I came home, put my shoe back on and have hobbled determinedly since then. It will be awhile in the mending. I managed to tear some tendons, disassociate parts of my toes from each other, and turned black and blue to the calf.
We one our Choctaw County cruelty case. The Parishes had grossly neglected a donkey to the point of death. They were found guilty, must reimburse our medical expenses, but were not fined. I was astonished. They put on the didn't know how to care for a donkey routine. One of our witnesses testified that he had told them twice that they needed to feed the donkey. I don't have the energy to get into why I believe they were not fined. Lets just say the prosecuting attorney did a great job on the case. We love him. And, we will work with the judge, and other involved authorities to see justice done in future county cases.
Sarah is here! Yes! She is a real asset. You will be seeing some of her handy work soon. She will aid with our web site updates soon. First we have to revamp my office and set her room up with an office area. She is far more computer savvy than I. We will soon be tackling the many projects I have been forced to put on hold.
I'm sleepy so I will say bye for now. Take great care. If you are one of the many people that have not gotten a reply to an e-mail, bare with me. I have nearly a months replies to catch up with.
