A Diary of Hope

The week of September 15, 2000

Doll Stanley

Slowly, but surely our canine care center is shaping up.  The service road is nearly complete.  Our wash and storage building was delivered, the fencing is nearly completed, the electric lines are being laid, and - and...  Wow!

Heat related neglect cases are keeping me crazed.  This has been a bad summer.

A friendly animal shelter donated about 10 bags of surplus dog food to us today, and will foster two of our rescues until our center is ready (if they have space that long).  If they run into space problems we will figure something else out.  Olivia, our cherished walker hound has pulled escapes nearly daily from her failing fenced area.  She has lead her buddies on some exciting adventures.  I have suffered injury, anxiety, loss of sleep, and abuse from our neighbor.  Since Olivia already killed 2 keyboards for me she cannot stay in the office.  Heidi is the other rescue being fostered.  I found her on our interstate overpass a few nights ago.  In heat, no ID, and skinny.

I was forced to move our 4 super barkers to one of the unfinished enclosures at the new site.  They are safely confined, and have temporary shelter.  Hopefully they will not dig out.  In short order they pulled the inactive electric line from it's mountings.  But, are they having a frolic.

Our MAWA ordinance committee met and went over the model ordinances we've collected to mold one best suited for the different communities we are preparing to aid.

I have 10,000,000 tick bites.  I guess I should ask the dogs if I can share their tick prevention aids.

Two rescues were spayed yesterday.  Andy, our precious rottie friend had another heartworm treatment - And a family is very interested in adopting him.  The woman suffers with a foot ailment and instantly identified with him when she and her husband saw him on the web.

I rewrote my newsletter draft.  The one I turned in is so outdated it's pathetic.  I hope it's not to late for my newer version.

I'm really tired.  It's after 1:00 and I have another challenging day ahead.  I'm going to crash.  I hope you are all really well and doing great.
