A Diary of Hope

The week of August 25, 2000

This week is so crazy, all I have time to do is a brief listing of what I’ve done! To give you an idea of what life has been like at Project Hope this week:

- The road is in progress to our new canine care area.  Should be finished in days.

- The County Supervisor will put in a culvert where our road meets the county road.

- The heat is keeping me busy caring for our residents, and addressing reports of the neglect of animals.

- We have no room at the Inn right now for dogs.  We are having to be very creative.  A transit worker rescued a young dog today.  "Doc" Abernathy will use one of our portable pens to accommodate the dog until we can figure out how to save him.

- Dr. Speede may be here the first week of Sept. to help with spay/neuter. Yeah!

- The ferrier was to come today.  Spent time haltering and keeping the horses up, and he was unable to make it.  He'll be here in the morning.

- Got an estimate on the sorely needed repair of our "Stock" trailer.  For the last two cruelty cases involving horses we were forced to borrow a trailer.  It isn't always easy to do, nor expedient.

- Margo is working on grant proposals to help us out.

- The remainder of the wind-breaks and shade clothes are ready to pick up.  The Goforths own American Tarp.  They donated the wind-breaks.

- The two remaining covered dog decks to complete this phase of our sanctuary upgrade are in progress.

- The fence man will complete his work as soon as he can get out here.

- The power company was out today.  They will hook us up as soon as we get our breaker box up.  They will install two night lights behind and below the fencing.

- Billy, our part time do what we want man, is busy.  He is doing the "get it ready" jobs related to our move.

- Diane went to work for Dr. Reece.  For health reasons she needed to get out of the weather.  She had planned on returning when her family re-cooperated from the  trials they have recently experienced.

- I have a cruelty case to follow up on this evening.  I will have to hurry.

- The pups that were thrown in the dumpster week-before-last are doing fine.  Two are in a foster hone, one has been adopted.

- I called the Sheriff night-before-last because someone was shooting near us.  Deputy Carver responded, but he had to far to travel to get here before the shooter or shooters stopped

- There are other items in the works, but I must get to the case I mentioned.
