A Diary of Hope

The week of August 4, 2000

The nine covered decks for our new canine care center are in place.  The storage building is next.  The road man will come next week.  I'm trying for deals on the needed dogs houses.  We planned to have six-plex units built.  Bad idea, the crew is too destructive for wood, and ticks love to breed in wood and shingles.  Lots more to do, to get - but it will be really good to get set up.

An animal friendly online magazine did some really great stuff with us a few months ago.  They're updating the story and featuring it again.  They merged with another company.

Two huskies are in a new home because of the moxy of parents with the backbone to have their son-in-law arrested for cruelty, and assault.  I got in on the case, but they get the kudos.

I've spent hours in the Wal-Mart parking lot trying to help a dog that clearly has  been lost or abandoned there.  Great news - he's at Project Hope.  I caught him tonight.  Yes, it will be a two a.m. morning instead of four.

Our Dr. Sherri  will be here tomorrow a.m.  Too great.  I adore her.  She helped me with the Catherine Twiss exotic animal cruelty case -  conviction on seventy-five counts.  It was a few years back.  She won my total admiration.  It is a bit peculiar that she nurtures in Africa, but she will be the first IDA person to see our maturing refugee camp.  By Fall our first stage canine center plans should be completed.  I so need Sherri's input.  We are also weaving plans for a return trip for her to do some major spay/neuter type stuff.

I inspired three different Sheriff's Depts. To handle "dog tied in the sun without any shade or water" reports.  Law enforcement truly believes that animal cases are "for the humane society to handle".  What humane society?  It will take time, but we may see the day that enforcement services recognize that they are responsible to carry out animal related laws. It's our job to model the humane and ideal paths to this trust.

Lots of calls asking for us to pick up stray, and no-longer wanted dogs and cats.  Our hands are tied as far as taking in any dogs.  The little guy I just helped brings us back to seventy.  We placed Cody cat this week, but he is even still with us until he is over a food change bowel upset.

I worked a few other cruelty cases.  They are still in process.

Lots of calls for advice, lots of other stuff done, in progress, and some piling up.

Bye.  I'm  really too tired to say anything else except that I may look, feel, and be decrepit - but give me a dog in distress and the flight my tennies take even shock me.  I out-ran my new little buddy.
