Past diary entries Doll's Diary Account by Doll Stanley, May 2, 2006 May 2nd, 2006 Dear Diary, As always, we at “Project Hope” are immersed in a whirlwind of activity. The mixed emotional bag is something else, but the work at hand far outweighs the test of our commitment. There are so many cruelty reports to address that the word overwhelming has become trite. The day-to-day needs of the sanctuary are also catching up with us. The Quinton Baxton case has become a saga. Baxton was arrested for neglecting his dogs as a result of our investigation into a complaint that he had a dog chained to a tree during the recent ice storm. We seized his dogs, plus took an eviscerated dog and three rabbits (with crushed heads) as evidence. He and his companion were convicted and fined. On Friday, the Sheriff’s Dept. acted on behalf of the Duck Hill PD and aided me in seizing three more dogs and six pups at his residence. The civil seizure aspect of the case is pending. The bond required for the hearing hasn’t yet been paid, and neglect charges are in the works. A report that a couple was fighting their dogs turned out to be totally erroneous. The dogs are well cared for, though there was a genuine need for improvement of their living quarters. It’s in the works. Sadly, it looks like people assumed that because the couple had so many pits they must be fighting them. We’re trying to prepare for a “Big Fix” event for cats. Our shelter friends at Oxford and Cleveland are hosting the ASPCA rig that’s coming in. We just have to show up with some cats in need of spaying and neutering. We took in 21 dogs and a cat. The cat was surrendered, but all the dogs were abandoned and/or abused. And so our work continues… Doll Stanley, Director, Project Hope |
