Doll's Diary

Dear Diary,

Hi everyone. I am so hopeful. With Debbie potentially coming on board to aid me and our draft for this year's proposed changes to the Mississippi state anti-cruelty statutes being approved by the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA) and other important proponents, Mississippi has an excellent opportunity to pass a nearly perfect animal protection bill.

The cruelty cases I addressed this week were as sad as any, but were resolved with little effort. While Rose's pups died from infection and being dipped in motor oil, at least she is safe with us. We are treating her for infection now, and after that we'll administer a heartworm treatment and see to it that she eats better than she ever has in her life.

Tucker and Maverick, poor souls, were abandoned by their guardians. At least they are gaining weight, and we'll also treat Maverick for heartworms.

Most of the other calls I've received lately are about abandonment complaints, aid for animals who are no longer wanted, and some neglected animals. I am trying to get to each case as I can, prioritizing of course, and also asking for aid from anyone that may be able to intervene or provide needed resources.

My letter to the local papers was published in the Daily Star. It was a plea for readers to consider the plight of abandoned animals, and how we can all help prevent this tragedy by humanely reducing the companion animal population through spaying and neutering.

As always there was much more, but I have to say goodbye now because I have tons of paperwork to complete.

Talk at you next week,

Doll.
